View Full Version : jackson nexgen 3n1 autodark issue

It seems that sometimes when I strike an arc, my nexgen lens switches to a max-dark setting, instead of the shade I've set it to.
For example when stick welding, I'll strike an arc and not be able to see squat - then pause for the helmet to go light, strike an arc again, and I'm able to see fine. A bit of a pain to say the least.
Anyone else seen this behavior? Maybe my lens is just losing its mind??

Maybe the battery is going out?
I use the EQC Pro Variable lens (uses AAA batteries, no solar panel) and haven't had that problem. I have been reluctant to buy a Nexgen because I have heard of other people having various problems with them.
I recently got an EQC 3-in-1 lens, not the Nexgen but it has a wide view lens and the solar panel like the Nexgen, and it won't go dark enough, even with new batteries. Both my lenses are supposed to go to shade 12, but the 3-in-1 seems like it only goes to about shade 10. If I wear sunglasses under the hood, then it's dark enough. Kinda defeats the purpose of having an auto-dark hood though if you have to wear sunglasses under it!
I'm thinking of trying the new Boss lens cause it doesn't have the solar panel and uses regular AAA bateries so it's more like the EQC that I'm use to, so hopefully it will work the same. If I do get one, I'm definitely buying from my local shop where they know me so if the lens has some problem, I can return it without a hassle.
