Recently a shop teacher on this forum was looking for ideas; cant remember the thread. I put this in the math section because I have formulas if anyone wants them. With the new launch into space by the private sector, I thought it would be helpful for the teachers/students to improve on this. I used fluxcore, leftover muffler pipe, 20 ga for fins(?), and pvc/SLIME bottle for the nose. The nose was never really finished. I can also take some pics that show how
Von Braun tested the center of pressure if anyone is interested. Center of pressure is like center of gravity but has to do with cross wind.

Heres a better pic of the math. The three fin and four fin area formulas are needed to compensate for a cross wind (center of pressure) if you want to launch into outer space.

Is anyone in this forum using this project at present?

When I went to Chico State (70's) we had a substitute teacher from their maint shop. Best teacher in the world, I think his name was Bob Johnson. He said , "welding coupons of steel together is not going to teach you anything. Design a project, build it, then we will sell it". Well we made Pot Bellied stove kits for 30 gallon drums. We sold a lot of them, and made a profit. The Dean came in and said " you cannot make a profit, this is a non profit school, you have to spend that money on the class." So he took the profits down to the local bar and pizza joint, and told the manager, when my class spends all of this tab, kick them out. I don't remember leaving that night.......Now it is a gay bar and it really has me worried about what I did that night, but we spent the profits!
