GROSS PIC WARNING
Well, it's been a few weeks and the healing is done, so I might as well mention this.
Getting hit on the head with a hammer hurts. A lot.
Slug from a 'rivet buster' air hammer (maybe 8 ounces) bounced off the 17 foot ceiling and found my head a few weeks ago. Wearing all the safety gear except a hardhat (glasses, faceshield, ear protection, etc), and wasn't in line with the hammer... had heavy steel between me and it. Fortunately, the die didn't hit anything. Worst part, this wasn't even at work.
No fracture, but a nice flap of skin torn free. The flap was a bit over an inch, according to the emergency room report, but I couldn't see it to confirm. The pic is the ER photo while they were doing the staples.
Staples out now, and all healed up. Lesson learned: wear the hardhat, too.

I bashed my head full on the other day, pulling myself in to the back of the truck, the racks got the better of my noggin. I fell off the side of the truck on to the ground like a sack of potatoes. No blood and no staples, yours wins.

I lost count on stitches years ago, but if I had to make a guess you've got me better than doubled. The only crying was that the was staffed by all male MD's and nurses. Not a pretty girl in sight *sigh*.
I just didn't like having to take time off to sit on my butt. (OK, I only took one day, not the three they told me to. Had to pad the headgear on the welding helmet around the mess.... strap fell right on it)
I'v got to look around for the pics from the anvil on my finger. Just call me Wile E. Coyote

Lucky it was a glancing blow!
An 8oz hammer (head) at some speed could have cracked the skull big time! Heard of a family in-law twice-removed kind-of guy who had a hammer/wrench fall on him. From a workmate, up on a power pole. IIRC, he had his hard-hat on. Hat cracked, permanent brain/mental damage was the result. Glad you're OK.
They didn't shave the wound area before tacking it with the stapler? I don't know if it's worse to have the long (relatively) hairs growing through/under/into the wound/scar, or to have the regrowing hairs growing through/under/into the wound/scar!
And for those who didn't know, head wounds -bleeeeeed-. A lot.

Fortunately, this wasn't the direct shot, but the ricochet. I have seen the result of a direct shot on a leg.

They cut back some as they went, but left most of it longer. 'We try not to to leave a bald spot'. Don't know it if matters otherwise.
And for those who didn't know, head wounds -bleeeeeed-. A lot.
Had to have the seats in my truck professionally cleaned. Despite using towels and compress.
