I got a new powermax 45 a couple weeks ago and the only thing about it that I don't like is that I didn't get one a long time ago. I cut some 1/2 inch plat and it went through it really great. I have never done any gouging before using any process but the control that the gouging function has is great in my opinion. A lot of the work that I do for myself involves modifying other items that have already been welded for my needs. This used to involve a lot of grinding which i didn't particularly enjoy. The gouge function makes taking out existing welds so easy it isn't even funny. It is extremely powerful as well, in fact I had to turn the amperage down because it was gouging too deep for that particular project. After getting the machine it has met and exceed all of my expectations. I dont see the oxygen acettalyne torches getting to much use in the future other than for heating. After I am done with my Mechanical Engineering degree, I plan to make a cnc table to put it on because i can see all of the applications that it could have. I just wanted to say if your even thinking about getting a plasma cutter, you probably should get one and make it a hyper therm.

It's a great machine. Ever time I cut steel with it, people stare at the cut in amazement. Looks like a polished saw cut.

I cut 1-1/2" bar with mine and the cut was pretty damn clean.
