View Full Version : Blackhawk Tools
I'm not really sure if this is in the right place, but any way I'm thinking of buying some combination wrenches both metric and standard form them and was wondering what do you guys know about them? What would be a comparable brand? and somewhere (on a different board not sure which) I read that they were made overseas, is this correct?

Blackhawk tools have been around for decades, I'd guess 50 years or more. They are part of proto tools I believe. Challenger is their bargin line. They are comparable to SK, Wright and other magor brands. I have some proto pliers and cutter that are as good as my Snap On tools. I haven't used their wrenchs so I don't have first hand experience with them but have worked with guys that had them and didn't seem to have any problems with them. I have no idea where they're made.
Thanks, I knew they were part of Proto (Stanley). I think I might buy a single wrench see what I think and if i like it then i'll buy the set, and if not i got a wrench i can beat.

i am a diesel mechanic/ after hours weldor I have 2 sets of blackhawk stubby ratcheting wrenches. they are more than comparable to snap on tools they are a division of proto which i have used for years. if they can stand up to what i put them through on a daily basis they should be more than ok for occasional use.

blackhawk by proto are made in the USA. they have a limited lifetime warranty.
from what i read here: http://www.stanleyproto.com/xhtml/literature/BlackhawkByProtoCatalog_T20505.pdf
I do not see any mention of were their tools are made in their catalog, am i missing it? Thank you for the comparison and for the first hand experience , this makes me a little more comfortable. I think i will still buy just a single wrench to try, as the $150-200 for the set or metric and english is a bit much for me.

I had a brain fart and totally forgot about Proto owning Stanley. I have a couple of sets of stanley and stanley professional wrenchs. The stanley pros are 98% as good as my snap on's. The snap on's are just a bit thinner.

I have a set of them and used them prolly 15 years as I was selling them at our parts store at the time. The only grief I ever got from them was losing them!! Nobody ever broke them and they had a lifetime warranty as well.
They was U.S.A. made in the early ninties for sure plus they are the owners/mfg of the trademark name Port-a-power tool every bodyman in the country had at one time.
For all I know today they could made in India!!
