I got this old arch welder from a farmer for catching some skunks for him, ( they had denned in his work shop) it says A.O. Smith on the tag on the back, 220-440 volts. It's really heavy, about 3' tall, has a wheel for adjusting power on the top and & a slot with an arrow indicator in it that runs from top to bottom to indicate where the power is set at. If anybody has any information about this type of welder I would appreciate hearing about it....Scott

Its Old School, but nothing with that, its a good machine in its time. Will it weld and what do you want to do with it. John WELCOME

Hi John thanks for the reply, it was welding real good, then it quit, apperently it died for good so I gave up on it, am looking at buying a replacement stick welder....I have some one inch thick boiler plate that has been laying here for quite awhile & was going to try to join two peices together to make a welding table top. Not sure how big of a welder I will need to join one inch plate....have been told I should get and AC/DC, so I am wide open to suggestions....the only welder I have at the moment is a hobart 135 mig & I doubt that is big enough for the job......thanks John
P.S. I scrapped out the old arc welder & got $300.00 for the copper that was in it....guess it paid to catch them skunks after all....Scott

If you only had 200 Amps, an 045 FCAW wire with 75/25 would do the trick. John
