hello i appreciate the site its cool! im not experienced by any means but i have used an arc welder a time or two on experimental projects which turned out ill stop there,good thing it wasnt in a spot where it could be seen but any way i was in harbor frieght and seen some mig welders that i could afford. i would like to ask if i were to try and build lets say a small trailer
for the riding mower would a mig do the job and what size of mig
welder would be good for common use . i appreciate the knowledge sorry if i sound clueless but it is trial and error

Skip the Harbor welding machines. For small work a Hobart HH180 would do.

The 175 - 180 class machines from any good manufacturer are rated at 1/4" single-pass weld on mild steel. That's plenty for building a trailer, and the welds will be safe given that the weldor is good enough. Practice is the key. LOTS of practice!

I'd consider Hobart or Miller for the excellent product support. Both companies (actually, Illinois Tool Works owns 'em both) have forums like this on which all comers are welcome, wether or not you own a product.

Actually, if you don't already have the metal for the trailer, you are better off buying one.
