Ever since all the chopper and street rod shows have hit the tube, I have been seeing the belt grinders they are using. Does anyone know where they can be purchased? I did a google but the only hits are industrial grade equip and cost thousands of dollars. I bought a cheap craftsman belt sander to try but it is weak and the belt is for wood. My price range is in the $500 range. What do you use?

I built one from junkyard scrap that works quite well and uses 2x72 belts. Go to this link

and read the top article.

Hey Hollis,
Very good job on that grinder fabrication! Have you made more than two so far?

I just picked up one from grizzly, I particularly like it. Have owned a couple other models and this is by far the best crafted:

Bruce,
Only made two at the time because all I had were the two scrounged motors. I have another motor now and plan to make one to run 6000 SFPM.

New guy answer: I bought a belt/disc grinder from Grizzly. I seem to remember it was in the price range that you have. Part # escapes me at the moment, but it's 110vac, 6"x42" belt, and 6"dia. disc. It's certainly not a heavy duty tool, but it works...

Hey Hollis,
The gent that takes care of my knives has a set-up very similar, he hauls it around in his custom shop on wheels, plugs in at all of the restaurants he services. I'm sure he bought his. Do you get notices that someone has replied to a thread that you are subscribed to? I don't, so I always need to check new posts.

Bruce,
I am always checking posts so I do not get notifications. I see that you jump around as much as me...:)
