I'm about to start fabricating some 316L s/s fittings which will be living in a marine environment, using both 316L to 316L and 316L to mild steel welds, and have taken out a second mortgage (!) to buy the appropriate 316L electrodes.
Having done this, I've now been offered a couple of boxes of 2205 rods for silly money, and I'm now wondering if someone with s/s experience could advise me whether these materials are compatible, and whether I might run into any problems by saving money this way.
However, if I can use 2205 rods on 316 base metal using multi-pass, would you suggest finishing with a 316 cap weld, or vice versa ?
Thanks in advance.
Colin
