I have an idea to better help forum members help each other and communicate. is there a way to search the member database by certain criteria? let's say i want to talk to welders in my same scenario... possibly age, types of equipment they use, location, etc. i understand that most forum members do not fill out their profile within the "User CP", but could it be possible to search members that DO fill these fields out? i do not know what kind of man-power and/or code-writing that would need to be employed to accomplish this, but i think it may be benficial to forum users. if a member does not fill out a given field (I.E. location or age), the filter could either be propted to filter these results, or to process them into the final report?
Just a thought.

Good Idea. I have often wanted to have that information as well. I guess they are wanted by the P!!!! or something. John G.
I don't know how difficult it would be but it would be nice to at least know the board members from you state and what town they live in. I sometimes think the reason some people don't put this info out is that they are a little gun shy to do this on the internet. Or then again, they could be wanted by the police as already stated. :)

We have elected to keep the member directory inaccessible for public viewing. One of the reasons stated for the lack of information in member profiles -- being gunshy about the internet -- is a good example of why we've made this decision.
Making the member directory accessible makes it available for use and abuse by spammers and others who register here and don't make themselves known to us.
While the issue of opening the directory does come up from time to time, and while we're always willing to entertain the idea, to date the community has generally been split on this particular choice. So we have erred on the side of caution by keeping that function turned off.

Oh yeah...Bob...if you can't block the phishers and spammers from the directory, don't even open it up. Thanks for considering that and explaining yourself.

Funny, I never thought of that before, but TODAY, tigweldjoe and I handed some electrode down from a dark mezzanine, so that a guy down in the light could identify it for us... You know what he said!
