does anyone know the inter-change-ability of parts on an HF Tig Welder? i don't really have the extra thousand+ dollars to get a "good" one, and i don;t really NEED it for anything. it will mainly be used for fooling around and cosmetic stuff. i was mainly wondering if i can get a basic Arc/TIG welder from HF, and get some "generic/Universal" add-ons such as a foot control and/or other TIG torches? also, does anyone have anyidea WHERE i might be able to get these add-ons at a good price? i don;t really expect to be able to get too many parts and make this thing into a beast, but i would like to be able to get at least a decent torch to put on it.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Andy

The HF tig's do not have any accessories. A few select people have made their own foot pedal. Save your money and get something decent.

that's what i figured. i'm not big into modifying electrical components, especialy the ones that have a chance of killing me, so the pedal idea is out of the question. i'll just wait a while and get a good one. like i said, i'm not in any rush to get one (and neither is my fiance), and it'll just be used for minor stuff for now. i guess this is a perfect example of "Buy cheap, buy twice".

thanks Micro

When you break the arc remain over the weld a few seconds this will keep the shielding gas over the termination point. This wil help.

Thats a good idea, simple and effective. Some rework of geometry and it should pull full travel.
