A heads-up folks.

The report is that Ford is recalling 1.17 vehicles in the 1997-2003 model years with the 7.3l diesel engine. Included are the E-series van, the Excursion, and F-450 and F-550 Super-Duty trucks.

The problem is listed as a bad camshaft position sensor that goes intermittent. When it flakes out, the engine stalls.

I didn't see the info on Ford's website (yet), and it may be buried in the NHTSA/DOT web pages somewhere, but MSNBC has the news report at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22130914/

The news article says that owners can call Ford at 866-436-7332 for info/etc.

I know Ford is stinky but they only sold 1.17 vehicles all those years? ;)

Kidding aside, that's 1.17 million 7.3l diesel engines over those years. Not any other engines.

While they have them in the dealer, they should install a new block that can keep the connecting rods INSIDE of the engine when they break.

Common problem, I keep a spare in my glove box. The part is a whole $35 at the International dealer and in 2 mins with a 10mm wrench it is fixed.

My 02 7.3 has over 300k on it and I've never had trouble with the cam sensor (or them coming apart). I even installed the larger wheel in the turbo, bigger injectors, and played with the computer by installing one of those after-marker power kits. I tow a 38ft 5th wheel any where I want to go, and I don't exactly baby it when I'm out on the road. I don't really care to fight the idiots on the road so I just get there...quickly. However I have a friend who bought an 03 with the new and improved 6.0l and had the 3rd block in it before the speedo read 60k. Those things were/are a piece of junk!!
