Just bought the Jackson Shadow welding hood with the "picture window". Does anyone make a magnifying lens that fits the whole lens area or are the magnifying lens just avaliable in 2x4 size?

I have one in mine (full size) so they are made, but I dont know who makes them since I just happened across mine in an old filing cabinet at work...

2X4 is all I've ever seen or heard of. Would be interested in trying a 5X4 if you find a vendor for them. They are probably like the old soft blue lens, they were great but can't find them anymore.

i know that Barnes & Noble Bookstores carry things called "fresnel lenses" (i think that's what they are called anyway). they are basically a sheet of plastic (about 5 or 10 paper-sheets thick) that have small ridges in them... they magnify things REALLY well, but i'm not sure if they would work in a helmet or not... if you concentrate the light beam in the sun jsut right, you can mak things catch faster than with a magnifying glass... we used to light 4 or 5 cigarettes with them at a time in phoenix over this past winter... i'd say get one and try it... you may have to trim it a bit to make it work... if it don't work, at least you have a nifty little fire starter.

As many welders as we have here, surely someone knows where to find a 4x5 magnifier lens.

One LWS here carries 1.25 to 2 power clear safety glasses. They are for the old and infirm. :).

Not that I would need let alone buy something like that. :) Besides-------------they were out of the 1.5's.

HELLO,
try taping a 2x4, slightly below the center,
then if you have to see something further
away, just tilt your head down, and look over
the top of it. this is way i did it. of course that
was many years ago, and my eyes were much better
then.
good luck.
