I have been welding for several years now. I took welding in high school. I live in Virgina and have been thinking about attending the flor daniels welding school in greenville south carolina. Do any of you all know this school? Is it a good choice or is there another school you would suggest in my area? Any advice on where to go for school will be helpful. I know just going to school won't make you a good welder you have to spend the arc time and listen to experts to get there, but i figure welding school is the best way to start off. So what do you think?

Is it Flor-Daniels or Fluor-Daniels? We do a lot of work for Fluor-Daniels on refinery upgrades.

F-W is a good company and they have a good school. Good start, if confused in the beginning, as us questions. John

I went through one of their schools, but that particular one has shut down since. Schools can be good or bad and about 90% of that decision is based on the instructor. You can put the best instructor in a school with 20 year old machines, and he will turn out better welders than a crappy teacher that has all the latest equipment.

i live in spartanburg and work for fluor global on and off as a pipe welder. The school is only 30 minutes from my house i did not attend that school but ive known alot of guys that did. if you want to learn to weld pipe i think it would be the way to go. the teacher there attended the school himself. it is mon-thurs and it is on the greenville tech campus and the cost is next to nothing compared to going through the technical school. Atlantic group also has a program there, they do alot of work for duke power at their nuclear sites. people come from all over the country to attend fluors school. The last project i worked with them was michelin US3. they offered me 28.00 a hour and 90 a day per diem to go to dunphe nevada but i really did not want to travel that far. they'll keep you busy but they will also keep you on the road. but it is good money compared to the local companys here.

As much as i wish i could say i am an underwater welder i am not. I am an PADI advanced open water diver. I am currently working for a local contractor welding sanitary stainless pipe for a local juice factory and a pie factory. we also work shutdowns for michelin tire and US corrugated (paper mill i hate that place!!) we do work for alot of local companys and generally stay in town. The job in nevada was 2 inch combo, it is still going on i believe, you can check the craft section of fluors website and see what their hireing for, i think they also have another large job going on in greensboro NC it pays 22.50 im not sure what size pipe or what process though

I didn't attend F-D's school, but I have worked for them in the past in MS building power plants. It was one of the better construction companies I have worked for. Ran into my old GF here in New Orleans after Katrina. He was running their FEMA trailer yard. Quite a few of the guys working the job I was on went through their school and they were all good.
