View Full Version : Engine Hoist/ Shop Crane
hi, thinking about getting this HF shop crane. Do any of you have one??? would like to know what you think. Checked other sites and they seem pretty good for the money. With coupon would be cheaper than making one. THANKS

Get the 2 ton folding one. I've had one for years and I can't fault it on anything. On mine I angled the legs slightly inward and rewelded them so they will have either a wider base or narrower base depending on which way you put them on. I had trouble with some smalller cars with the legs not fitting between the front tires. With the legs set wider it is easier to get engine stands and the like in closer without extending the arm and decreasing the lifting capacity. HF has the best deal out there especiallywith discounts.

I have the 2 ton hoist and 2 of the engine stands. Hoist has done me no wrong and the stands have been holding 2 dodge small blocks for the past 8 months with no issues.

No complaints with my 2 ton hoist. Pulled my 460 and c-6 with out breaking a sweat. Folds up nicely and wasnt a major job to put together.

I also own the folding crane setup, I have put it through its paces and it hasnt blinked an eye.
As far as modifying the legs, what are you talking about exactly? I have trouble now with trying to get an engine mounted to my 2K lb stand because they arent wide enough.... maybe a pic or two?

If you look down from the top, I cut a wedge and rewelded the leg just out from the point where they pivot up to fold. It makes the legs go out at less of an included angle than they did before. To make the legs wider to fit your engine stand, just switch them side for side. I would take a picture but the thing is buried behind a bunch of stuff in the shop right now. Hope that makes it clearer.

Sorry for not setting it up but you can see the mods to the legs (primered areas). They are folded up but you can see that they will be wider than if they were straight when you put them down. To make them narrower, just switch them side to side.
