Folks around Augusta GA looking for introduction to welding course should check out the Gertrude Herbert Art Institute. They offer a 6 weekend, 3.5-session course that covers welding safety, OA cutting, plasma cutting, SMAW welding and MIG welding. My son and I enrolled and have one more session to go. Since we are only students in this class and have prior welding experience, we've pretty much covered the course material and have been playing with more advanced skills like overhead stick welding. Tomorrow is a project day since we're out of instructional material and the instructor, Roger Finch, threw in a free 7th session next week which is a field trip to his favorite scrap yard. I believe they also offer a OA welding class that alternates with this class. Check it out at www.ghia.org.
