In my job, I get a tool allowance of $75 per quarter. Basically, you go and buy $75 worth of tools and turn in the receipts at the end of the quarter and you get reimbursed. There is a catch that you would have to make the purchases within that quarter for it to count. They do supply basic safety items, but just the bare requirements(my assigned welding helmet is a basic Jackson big window). Problem being, I want a good A/D helmet but I would only get reimbursed the first $75. Until now. They recently changed the policy so now I can spend as much as I want on a welding helmet, and I would get reimbursed completely $75 at a time. A coworker already took advantage of it and bought a $300+ Miller Elite, now I've got to go down to the LWS and check them out. :cool2:

Good for you. I've had to supply my tools since I was 21 and never been reimbused a dime. At least now now if there is something we really need need that I don't already have I can get on a company credit card but then the company owns it.

As you know, there's going to be certain tools you need for this job that most people wouldn't have otherwise. Matter of fact, my next tool purchase will most likely be a set of jumbo wrenches, 1 3/8 to 2". Not something that I would ever use at home but very handy for QDs in tight places where a Crescent wrench just won't fit.

Might as well angle head wrenches or offset wrenchs. They are a bit shorter but quite usefull when working on hydraulics.
