I have purchased a Victor Superange II torch kit. I have been looking at buying my own acetylene/oxygen tanks.
The Victor torch comes with CGA-510 and a CGA-540 regulators. In looking at acetylene cylinders they all seem to have CGA-520 valves.
I sure could use a recommendation as to whether my regulator can be refitted or if there is a 510 to 520 adapter and what is the best way to go.
Second question is I am looking at 40 CU tanks. Are these large enough for general low use auto/farm work?

Thanks in advance,

Jerry

CGA-510 (POL Acetylene) fittings can be readily adapted to any other Acetylene fitting. Western Enterprises makes a ton of adapters. Any good welding gas distributor should have them on hand. The one you are looking for is common. There are at least 4 "common" acetylene tank valves that I know of: CGA-520 ("B" Tank), CGA-510 (POL Tank), CGA-300 (Commercial), CGA-200 ("MC").

40 CF tanks are big enough for occasional use. You'll find that you use O2 at about 2.5 to 1 vs. Acetrylene for cutting.

You shouldn't have a problem.

I dont like the 40's way too small. Even the 80's are small too small especially if you live in a cold climate or want to run heating tips or even larger cutting tips. The acyt just doesnt make enough gas. I use the 140/125's and they are small enough especially when trying to heat with a rosebud. I use plasma for most cutting and these fit on the service truck or I would be into the large ones, 330 class. Actually with bottles the bigger the better and the cost to fill is so much less.
