I remember hearing people are starting to run spool guns on off there tig machine.
I was wondering how that is done, since the spool gun feed speed is set by the machine.
Does anyone have more info on this.
Thanks,
David

There were older models that ran off, ARC welders as well. At the time they were setting it up. I did not plan on doing much Spool gun welding. But it works well. It has contacts that turn the power on and off.
I remember the expert on it, saying that it had a choke or coil to limit voltage or amperage, or wire speed. For the life of me right now I cannot remember which one.
It used noble gas. It was already about fifty years old when I saw it, and that was about seven years ago.

I have not seen the set up you are talking about but I do know when Miller made the 250 MIGs for snap on snap on did have a TIG torch option for it.....

On the Miller Spoolmatic series spool guns, the speed control is on the gun.

Tig is a CC machine and wire can be run on CC, but it is better in automatic, because of the constant ESO that controls the voltage. John

Profax builds one (used to be the airco gun and appears unchanged) with the proper control unit they claim it will work on any machine. I haven't run a spool gun on cc but I have run wire feeders on cc and cv machines. The only really noticeable difference I found is that cc produces a lot more splatter. I only used the cc power source on two jobs, but they have both been worked hard (can you say abused) since and none of the welds have had any problems.

That makes sence, yeah my 3035 does not.
OK it stays on the miller machine anyways, just wondering, be cause it is easier to lug 50#(tig) around than 200#(mig).
Thanks for explaning the cc vs the cv also, didn't know that.

Extremely difficult to contol your stickout when connected directly to a CC machine, thus you would need a voltage sensing adaptor, or a voltage sensing feeder on a CC machine. This works well and is used in many shops off many types of CC equipment.

I think the control unit takes care of that on the spool gun cruizer. I read about them but didn't get too deep into them as the machines I use most of the time are cc/cv.
