I agree. No way would I work for that money in CA. My brand new $136k 3 bed condo would sell for at least $500k out there. Your wage offer is no where near in line with where it should be in terms of a cost of living allowance. Heck, here in FL they pay shipyard welders $25 an hour, and our cost of living is as low as it gets. It looks like you are an employment agency too, so I am sure you are skimming a good hunk off the top. I am a free agent. Good luck. You will need it.

Most agencies provide health insurance, but it is not free and not usually even a very good deal either. Some provide vacation after a year, most dont.
I agree, those are low wages for the requirements. Prevailing wage is $37.50 for certified structural welding on gov't contract jobs.
The shipyards down here in southern Cal don't pay much and the biggest one, NASSCO, pays very low, $15-20. I'm sure our close proximity to the southern border has alot to do with the low wages.

Thats bull****. But Im sure your absolutely right. I search craigslist in the bay area all the time for welders and it usually pops up a few jobs and it is pretty bad the wage they want to pay someone. You are dead broke in the bay area making 15-20 dollars an hour.

Why the demand for such a high pay? I doubt welding really requires that much education to the point where you should be making more than 30$ an hour.

Most single hand welders in the bay area make mid 30's per hour and rig welders make 50-60 per hour depending on the contrator. Some specialty welders get paid more. But like I said "most" make roughly that wage.

And FWIW, $18-20 is around what they pay a sales person at Home depot with no skills whatsoever.

I realize that wages, cost of living, etc. are geographic, so let me throw some geography on you. Look at my location...ok. Place I work, first class mig welders top out, t-o-p o-u-t, at $11.75. And that takes three years to get, at the least.
I'm fortunate I fell into a crew leader job ,by default, and I get a buck more.
Ship yard on the gulf coast is paying over $22 for first class. I just don't have the cash flow to move right now.
