a piece of my piston broke off on my blaster and wouldn't let me shift past 3rd so i figured it was probably the piece of the piston. so i took my motor apart and split the cases and cant figure out what could make it not shift past third. until i can figure it out I'm on the look out for a 200cc or bigger 2 stroke motor.

Seems like if it was just a piece of your piston that it would of just locked the crank up. I had an old suzuki that a guy rebuilt and dropped a washer in the crank when he was putting it back together. I got it dirt cheap spun the magnetio in the oppisite direction and got it with a magnent. Maybe since its aluminum it just ground it up which caused it to somehow get in your oil or something. Idk do all or your parts move (springs ext.)?

if it's a shifting problem, it's a problem with the transmission. if you can still run it in 1st and second, you don't need a new engine... the engine is fine. i know nothing about quad mechanics... i can only relate it to a car, but it makes no sense why you would need a new engine in order to properly shift.

Check the shift forks.

There is no seperate transmission Andy.:p
The gears are all located inside the engine case.

I'm pretty sure its one of the gears or rod is bent but i don't really want to put $ in to that motor so i may just buy a used bigger motor. any one know of any fairly cheep motors that could possibly fir a 200cc frame with a little modification?

once again.. lemme try to make this a little more clear... IT"S NOT THE MOTOR!!!! it's the tranny.. trannies are cheaper than engines usually.

the motor and tranny such as Joe H said there is no real seperation between the two they are all in the same case.

so it will be cheaper then fixing the piston and the gears and buying all new gaskets. i found a cheap gsxr 600cc street bike motor that im thinking about puting in to my
frame.

i give up

do you get what we are saying though?

do you get what we are saying though?

i understand perfectly what you are saying... the engine internals, as well as the transmission internals are both enclosed within a single aluminum housing. i understand that you cannot just replace a transmission like you can with a car or truck. according to what you are saying (if i am understanding you correctly) is that in order to replace the transmission parts, you need to take the engine out/apart, as well as the transmission.

now, on the other hand, you are talking about changing "pistons" or "valves". the only time that you have either one of those parts, or parts named "piston" or "valve" is with an automatic transmission, which i am assuming you don;t have. if you have a manual transmission, which i am assuming you have, the pistons and valves are within the ENGINE portion. if these parts were damaged, you would hear a weird "ting" sound at the very least (valves hitting piston face), if your engine would even run. if your engine will run, and the performance has not been altered within the first couple gears, then you have a problem with your transmission. it would be much cheaper for you to rebuild the transmission than it would be for you to modify your frame for a GSXR engine, or even replace the stock engine with an OEM replacement unit.

just my $0.02. you won't know for sure until you actually get into there and find out... for all you know, it may just be a non-properly adjusted shift cable, or just some bad fluid... or it may be a gear was completely stripped gear and the the have been lodged into the case. you just won;t know until you look a little closer.

i have the whole thing taken apart and the piston I'm talking about its my piston in my cylinder its a 2 stroke motor so i don't have valves like a for stroke has.

The thing about most 2 stroke though is that the transmission case is seperated from the crank case by a sealed wall basicall so any engine damage shoul not cause Tranny damage. no if it has then you have a bigger issue on hand and will need to buy a new case.

I have a hole in the bottom of the case. under the crank shaft. this is a chamber i thank that can be welded? would anyone know....?

Now that would be sick!
