Picked up a used Hobart G-213 portable unit with a 2 cylinder Wisconson motor on it. This unit had been in service up to about a year ago, and has been setting in his garage. Got the thing home put some new gas in, cleaned the cap ,rotor and points. Got it running let it warm up for a little bit. Then wanted to see if I could get the welder to work, had some problems getting the handel to turn but it did at last. Welder seams to work ok, need to do some cleaning get things freed up a bit. Ok here is the problem : flipped the switch to see if the 110v and the 220v plugs are working, nothing flipped the switch some more still nothing. Now where do I start to look to see what may be causing the problem of no voltage at the plugs?

Thanks for any and all coments.

I am bumping this post, due to I found one today for sale. And would like to find out more info about it. I am tempted to buy it, but want to know if it worth the money.

Hobart has great machines and they last a long time. Their customer service is top notch.

But what is it worth? He wants 800.00 for the welder, trailer, leads, hood, and a 50lbs unopened can of rods.

What year is it, how many hours on it, how is the overall shape of it?

My old hobart has a spring loaded switch that doesn't always trip like it should, take a look & make sure the contact mechanisen is moving when you throw the switch.

The G213 is a rare beast - good old welder, though. I believe the armature which has brushes similar to Lincolns, also carries the ac generator windings which delivers 120 vac to slip rings where small brushes ride parallel to the slip rings. If you have no ac power that is where to start. Use the same commutator stone that you use on the dc commutator to clean the slip rings. See if you have ac there. Don't you have a switch on the front panel to switch from one speed to another? Believe it or not, seems that is from 1800 to 2300 rpm. Those cast iron rods again. If you need other info, we can check a unit here. PM us if so. weldersales

get me the spec number and I can get you a manual. I have 3 file cabinets full of Hobart manuals, dating back to 1940. And since Miller owes the 250 amp and below Hobart lines and Thermal Arc owes the 250 and above, both of these sources no longer have manuals on the older stuff.

KSellon----Just checked your profile and found your company web site. Fantastic! I'm in the process of restoring a 1947 Hobart GR200 s/n 5CW19164 Spec 4013B and could sure use a manual. Do you happen to know the origional color of the tin and the engine(jeep MB)?

Strange he made the offer of old manuals and never followed up on the board. Hope he is okay.
