I was looking for something to do with my TIG welder to brush up on my skills and my brother called me and asked to build some custom brackets to help support some deck supports that were no longer holding so well.

Below are the photos on 6 simple brackets I made for him. It was nice to do something production wise rather than just practice.

Nothing special. All 1/8" MS running 125A, 3/32" Tung. 1/15" ER70-S2 Filler.

No bending. Just took some 1-1/2" angle and welded it to some flat. Quick and simple.

Nice job, good looking welds. Not many of us have access to a heavy bender to make that shape. I'm sure you saved a good deal of cash for brother by welding up the brackets versus paying a shop to bend them for you.

Umm, why not MIG them? save heaps of time, gas and money.

nice looking welds, and it appears the steel was some rusted and pitted and not cleaned up too much... ?

Actually the steel was cleaned in muriatic acid and the weld joints were prepared with acetone before welding. The rust you see was from some overnight surface rusting because I did not oil them up.

Sometimes I tig just because I finally have a nice machine to do it with.

Sometimes when a customer walks in with a little job, I say Hmmm this would be best if I use the tig. Those joba are a $1 a minute. I make a little more because it takes longer.
