Hello, im looking to buy a relitevely entry level tig welder.

I have been mig welding for 10 years, and have never had the need to do tig. I now find myself needing, or should i say , wanting to learn how to tig weld. I have experiece with tig welding at work, but its very minimal, i normally stick to MIG.

I am looking to beable to TIG weld, mild steel. With a maximum thickness of .125 or .1875. I am not needing to beable to ARC weld, nor do i need it to be a plasma cutter, but if a combo unit is the most economical choice, i can live with that. I would prefer that the welder have an amperage pedal also, but its not required. I would like something that is beginner friendly and hobby friendly.

The option to beable to weld aluminum down the road, would be nice, but its not necessary.

Could you please direct me to which of your products meet my needs.

Thanks alot!

Hi Taylor,
I am not a Longevity rep but do think based on what you are describing the LS160P would do you well. It is a multifunction AC/DC Pulse Tig/MMA/plasma cutter machine. This will weld aluminum and easily weld steel in the thickness you are using. You say you don't need plasma, that was my initial reaction but found that I use that more than the Tig function. It is so fun I just try to think up uses for it.
A good multifunction unit really isn't much more than a standalone unit that can weld aluminum. You should be looking at AC/DC pulse machine for best aluminum results. Some will say you don't need AC for al but it does work better that way in my opinion.
If you prefer not to go with the multifunction and do wish to have the AL option down the road I would go with the WeldMate LW-200ACDC http://longevity-inc.com/product_details.php?id=28
The Weldpro LS160P multifunction is only $100. more and can be seen here http://longevity-inc.com/product_details.php?id=28
Of course Simon may suggest other machines and I would weigh his suggestions very carefully since he is much more familiar with the entire line of Longevity welders.
Hope this helps,
Dan
