Ok.. to some this may be a dumb question, but I have been thinking way to much about this. I am building another table and i cant decide which side of the table i want my vise on. I have room in my shop so there is no space issues and i have thought about how i will be using it and what positions i will be in. Does anyone have a preference on which side of the table they mount their vise?? Thanks, Nick

You could set it up so that it can be moved around if need be.

Mine is actually removable.
I had a plate of 3/16" steel that I drilled the bolt holes for the bottom of the vice in. I then mounted the vice on the plate and bolted it down.
I then used Hitch reciever and Hitch tube. I welded the tube (Female end) into the top of my table flush with the top. I then welded the Reciever area (the male part) on to the bottom of the plate I made to attach the vice.
So now, I can remove the vice and set it somewhere or use it when needed (It can take a REAL beating trust me...lol).
You can mount 4 of those receiver tubes flush to the table and move the vice in any position you want. I recommend doing it on the ends of the table so that it stays easy to clamp you work (sometimes the turning part that clench the work will hit the table if long enough, so stick to the edges).
It's kind of pricey, but, I think you'll be much happier with it this way.

if you dont make it moveable put it right in the middle..that way you dont have to wait for it to be in the way. you get get it over with first time you use it

My vice is movable as well but the tubes are welded under the corners of the table so that it slides in. With it sticking off the corners the table doesn't get in the way of material when bending things.

Hey thanks guys, This is all great info, Ive decided to put it in the corner but outside of the table. I dont think i will have it movable though. My vise is very large and i would like it to be fairly solid.

You could just drill mounting holes on both ends of the table, then if you find you need it on the other end of the table, just unbolt it and move it.

Jason could you post a picture of your set up. I think I got it but I'm a little dull.

If space is not an issue make a separate stand for it and bolt the stand to the floor.

You can buy the stock from yer Steel supplier but it is $$

and then just mount whatever tool/ vise as Jason mentioned on a piece of 2" tubing.

I have a receiver at every corner of my 3'x6' table

Grinder on one end, Vise on the other and just remove them if I need to use the entire surface of the table.
