I could be " Just stupid," Simon, But i swear that the instructions that I read last night said to remove every " ! " exclamation point !!!! This morning the instructions say to remove every " @ " sign ???
My signature appears to have what is needed for the contest, but i am now confused.
Straighten me out old Buddy...... BTW... when should I expect my LS 160 P to arrive at the "dirt Farmer"

Let me know when you have one related to welding!

Can I leave other links and HTML in the signature ? Are the links there to allow other users to see that individual support longevity and that they just click the signature or is it the purpose of increasing page ranking in search engines. If its not for search engine ranking then everyon could add a nofollow tag and that would be ok correct ?

rel="nofollow"> could be added after the URL address to eliminate any evidence that the sole purpose of this is to increase your page ranking. And iff page ranking is your purpose then I guess thats inline with the forum policies.

Here is a link to an article regarding comment spam that more clearly identifies what I am speaking of http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2005/01/preventing-comment-spam.html

Of course I guess if it was an issue the weldingweb people could make it automatic where all posts have a nofollow attribute added.

Was indexing the longevity site a consideration when coming up with the contest ? The reason I ask is because one of the other importers on the forum and I had a pretty lengthy discussion about the subject and he was under the understanding I would place a link on my website to his on my index page. I was reluctant to use that page but did because that is what he understood I would do. When I placed the link with the nofollow attribute set, he clearly indicated the purpose was for increasing his google page rank.

Again, that may not be your purpose however this is NOT a contest. It is a "random" drawing. There is a difference.

Although I do not plan to enter the Contest/Drawing, Gaustin certainly makes a good point since I also noticed that ploy by the other importer/dealer/manufacturer to increase their rating/ranking/evaluation in hopes to increase sales.

I too know the importance of high evaluations when it comes to selling on Ebay or elsewhere. I do ocassionally sell stuff on ebay.

I think if this is a true contest most folks are going to hesitate to go through all the membership registrations and hoops that they have to jump through just to enter a contest for a possible chance to win something.

In even the easiest contest you usually have a better chance of being hit by lightning than winning the contest.

You are not mistaken. I had the ! changed to @ because it is easier to find and remove than the skinny !. Some people were having problems with the code and Dan suggested an @ instead.

As far as the 160P - the container line quoted us on Oct 8th to Oct-10th.

Thank you for being patient Joe. I know you will be satisfied!

Tom,

I think this is an interesting contest that does not require much work from the people who join. Many companies have similar drawings! In fact, people who have a potential chance of winning also register with our forum and have the ability to get more advice on our products in our own forums, where most of the content is based on what we sell.

Our last contest required some skill because we required our logo to be made! Of course, the reward was greater, but to change your signature and register at a useful forum is not a big task for the reward.

Gerald,

A contest, drawing, raffle or whatever you or others may call it. Someone will win a plasma cutter based of entering the code to the signature and joining our useful forum. The purpose is to get more publicity and website traffic as well as generate forum activity on our site.

I have heard of google needed to have numerous links to increase page rank and our development team is currently setting us up for the same thing. However, that was not the purpose to just get us indexed.

Hi Simon,

I wasn't really being critical of the action. Like you said Many others use this practice as well to generate membership and interest in their site and product.

But when I saw this at the bottom of ed king's post it almost makes it like he either works of the company or is endorsing their products by having his membership name after the click here link to site.

Click Here for the Best Deals On Welding Equipment from LONGEVITY™ EdKing

That is the reason for my hestiation to sign up for the contest.

I see his name there! We are gonna have a talk with Ed:dizzy:

I agree that this is something new, but if gets us some awareness and someone gets a free unit with parts and labor warranty than we are all for it. We want to make sure the big dollars we spend on this site are put to work and the people get a chance to use our equipment.

My user name at your forum is the same: MAC702. The more I read about you guys, the more I think you are trying to break in with a decent product at a good price. The marketing might still need some work, but enough satisfied customers will soon be taking care of that for you!

Your right MAC so far Simon and Longevity are doing at good job as a startup company.

I bought a new Longevity Force Cut LP80 amp plasma cutter. I had a couple of problems at 1st but Simon's customer support QUICKLY resolved the problems. Reading all the posts from customer here at welding web sold me on buying Longevity. So far I am very impressed with the ForceCut LP80 performance and Longevity's customer support.

If Longevity keeps up this product and customer support it will go along way to establish Longevity in the market.

Everyone,

Welding Web did not approve the last contest because of some people complaining. We will have to re-enter a contest where marketing through a signature line will not be included.

After a few PMs from Bob on here I told him we will approve the next contest with him prior to posting.

For now, we will run the same contest on on our forum so if people still want to win, they can enter there.

Sorry if this has caused anyone any problems,

Simon

Simon:
Just out of curiosity, where are the specs. such as input amps/ volts to be found for your equipment?

For those who want to have a 'Signature" for just this forum, can't you just save it somewhere and paste it on the bottom of your post whenever you are here? A little more work, but .....

longevity-inc.com
10-10-2008, 12:18 PM
Oldiron2,

Thank you for the question. Currently, we are rebuilding to make everything more purchase friendly - meaining we will have specs and power charts clearly visible for customers.

Right now, the specs are shown on each model on our website, but we want to consolidate everything into a chart. Hopefully, soon you will see what I am talking about and I am sure more people will be impressed because of the man hours put into developing the site.

As far as the contest, we will not have the sigs anymore on this forum. It was a good way to get us clicks and a reasonable way for someone to win a prize. The last contest required a lot of work, but was also more rewarding. With this contest, we simply wanted to market and giveaway a prize. I talked to Bob and we agreed that we will work together to make a contest that will be well liked on this forum and giveaway a prize that is worth entering.

I promised to some to re-run the contest on our forum and I hope to have before today. This will be fair to WW members who still want to win. They will have to enter with their Longevity Forum id and we may not require a sig since it is our own website.

Hope i answered all the questions,

Simon
