I have a question on using the Hobart TR-250-HF welder. I purchased this from an auction and it seems to work great. I'm in the process of welding an all aluminum trailer. I put all the aluminum framework on the ground to tack them all together and would try to use the foot petal but it is very awkward to use this while crotched to the ground. I decided to try not to use the foot petal and put it in local instead of remote mode but noticed that there was a big increase in power. Is it possible that the foot petal doesn’t have the full range? Is there an adjustment. Don’t really see a large range with the petal but thought it was just me. A friend of mine who welds all the time said that sometimes those foot pedals need to be replaced.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jeff

i have a AR-250-HF Hobart..pretty much the same machine..
And i LOVE IT!
when you go to "local" thats just like using a stick welder..because you can with that or any machine..in all reality..
but even with a tig torch you have no control over the heat..what its set at is what you get..
just like stick welding..
you need the pedal for aluminum..its that simple..
because with no heat dajustment you can and will end up with that big shiney aluminum puddle on the floor...:realmad:
maybe pick it up and put it on some benches or something so its at a more comfortable level for you..
have fun..been there done that..and still do..

In general, all tigs are wired so that the remote takes you up to what you set on the output dial. If you set it to zero, the control will take you from zero - or minimum - to zero. If you happen to want full control, set the output control to max and then the pedal will take you from min to max. The foot control in your picture is a 25,000 ohm model. The unit is very sturdy and seldom fails, but if it does, all you need to replace is the inexpensive 25,000 ohm potentiometer. No big deal. weldersales
BTW, it is not expensive to add a torch mounted remote to your torch. No problem to leave both in place, just plug in whichever one is convenient to use at the time.
