Is there any possibility you can come up with a newer frame?
I'm definitely not an expert on frames, but it looks like it can't be rebuilt. Even the part that hasn't holed yet might have many mils gone from rust. Getting to clean metal would take even more.
Maybe a rear clip assy.?

hey or u could back half it like we do in building a baja truck u can still put the original bed on it the only thing is u may have to find some rectangular tubing and just keep it straight instead of the bends it will work and tell ur dad to put a flat bed on it would make his life so much easier especially at early morning feeds(hate loading my truck wt the bed on it especially since the stacks get screwed up

Trust me I want to tube it like I did my FJ and some others, however, money and time are key players here.
If I go ahead and tube it, I still have to put on the new bed which he has not found yet and put the topper on. So stock will have to be the way to go. I would like to turn it into another crawler though:D
When my father brings it down, I'll know what to do with it. I already know what hes going to say, " I dont care how you do it just make sure my bed and topper are on when your done". :waving:

Tubing can be expensive. My advice a good burial. If that doesn't work for your dad you might try looking around some construction sites where they are demo a building and see if you can dig up some freebie steel such as l-Beam.

BTW, this is my first post. I've been lurking for a while looking at the projects. I just welded a license plate holder for my front receiver hitch on Tuesday. As far as the rusted out truck of my father's, I havent seen it yet (with the bed off) . Probably tow it it over here in the next few weeks so I'll know what to do about it soon. It will be a good project for sure if I can salvage it. Going to take some time though, but Dec is always good stuff like this.

Just pulled the trailer into the home shop (garage) with the steel.
Im going to basically build a new rear section. Oh what fun,:dizzy: The truck is in great shape other than the rear frame. I should have posted pics of the cab and mtr to show its worth saving.
The real kicker is, my friend has a close to perfect frame in a field about 7 miles away to give me. but..... the land has no access. One has to enter another land owners property to get to it. That land owner seems to suffer from a mental disability and wont let anyone through to get to the vehicles. "land locked'? I think is the term:(
Yeah what a mess.
Im pretty busy and I dont really know when I'll be done. I'll try and post pics when I make some progress.

I have been working on this as much as I can lately.
The new frame rails have been cut and tacked together. Hopefully tomorro I can get them welded up . The rails so far have come together well with the angles I need and are pretty true.

Lewray, I am Land Man for an oil Company here in Northern Texas, Your friend has the right to have access to his land no matter whats in front of it. No way, can a guy stop you from coming on YOUR land even if you have to drive through his to get to it. I would either go out there and just do it, or go to the courthouse and get it settled out, but thats rediculous. May have differnent laws where you live, but here thats how it is. I deal with these people everyday and its ussually ends up well, but sometimes you have to deal with guys like this. Just my 2 cents.

Give the quack a gift certificate to your local Wall-Mart. Attach a letter with instruction to redeem the gift certificate at time and date that you intend to remove the truck. This will get your quack out of the way with out any hassles. The quack does not need to know of your alternate intentions. You could also leave the gift certificate at the service desk in his name in case he doesn't take the bait. :blob2:

It's always a balancing act dealing with some guys. Some get pretty whacko when it comes to comin' on their land. Doesn't matter what the law is.
If the guy has some problems, it's a matter of how well ya know him, his family, and other folks that might know him. Sometimes it's better to let sleeping dogs lie(lay?). It can get pretty tricky.
Sometimes it gives ya good conversation over a few beers around the back of the pickup sittin' in the driveway:laugh: Providing nobody got hurt:laugh:

Thanks..
I've been busy lately so not much has been done. Plan on getting lots done today.
The new frame rails were tough to line up level and square;however, what actually made it easier, was using the axle and springs. Since I got lucky as he!! with the transition and measurements of the new rails, all I had to do was rest them on the axle leafs and use shims with some jackstands and the fit up was pretty much perfect. Now it did take several hrs before I was happy enough and decided to lay down the first weld.
Now the new gas tank mounts are almost done and I'll probably take forever deciding if I'm happy enough to weld that in today...gosh I gots to get this thing done...tired of lookin at it:p

Heres what I got done as of today. Cab is bolted down to the new welded mounts, what a pain by the way, by yourself
Truck is now on its own weight and everything looks good and level; however, I did try to have the rear up a little to compensate for the bed weight. Pinion angle is at 9 1/2 degrees like I found it.
Finally got the freakin gas tank mount made and welded. Fits really well, very happy about that one. As you can see, I had to order the pump assembly for tank..!
On the home stretch on this one. Getting ready to add the bed soon.

Really like the new hangers. Is it tubing that's been notched, cut, and bent??
Some kind of different way they have of mounting the gas tank. That's a really good feeling when the bolt holes line up I'll bet. All "air" measurements to go by. I can see the reason for the massive supply of blue tape.
Looks like a deal where you look, measure, think, look again, measure, then spend maybe 30 minutes actually committing it to the weld. It's pretty traumatic stuff.
Looks great

Sam your one smart fellow, that is to appreciate the "air measurements" and yes sometimes it can get traumatic staring and staring at tacked welds before being satisfied. blue painters tape...thats the secret
The tube I bent and notched. I couldnt think of a stronger more practicle way of making that side of the mount. The whole idea of that bracket is it has to be suspended and out of the way of axle and drive shaft. That way I didnt have to make a bunch of right angle pieces with lots of welds, I just bent the tube.

Look Sam no more blue tape:p
Finally black paint. Brakes are somewhat bled, I think I need to get a new master cylinder. Truck started right up like there was nothing to it. I wanted to drive it down the road but not till I know where I stand on these dang brakes.

Thanks Joker, I actually drove it. Started right up, still not too sure about the brakes. I think it just needs pads and possibly a master cylinder.
Its been never-ending for sure. My dad will be happy when he gets his hunting dogs loaded up and takes it out again. He raises and sells mountain currs to folks all over the country and he says wants to show off his revived truck at the next curr show and meet.
