So after much deliberating, I went ahead and ordered an Everlast Cut50d from eBay after speaking with Alex on the phone. Everything started out great, it was shipped same day and arrived in one week. It did ship with a 40 amp torch, but that is the least of my problems. Connecting the air supply was difficult since the included threaded barbs wouldn't seal on the regulator so I had to replace it with some barbs that I had. The hose would not seal unless I installed two hose clamps on both ends of the hose.

I plugged into a 240v 50amp circuit that I use for my Lincoln welders. I turn on the air, turn on the power, and when I press the trigger the air flows, but no arc is struck. Is this the same symptoms that other users have experienced?

I sent an email to the ebay seller, lets see what happens.

When you pressed the trigger how close were you to the work pc? Did you touch the tip to the work pc?

Assuming he did both you asked my immediate question is did you make sure that your ground clamp was properly attached to clean metal.

Just out of curiosity, why didn't you make this thread in the Everlast Support Forum? I don't think Tech Support monitors this particular forum.

I did both, pull the trigger 1/8" away from the metal, and pull the trigger when it is touching the metal. I went so far as to try starting the arc on the ground clamp.

I had the pressure up to 60 PSI, I read in another thread that the pressure could also be too high?

GiantTechGuy, thank you very much!

I just went out to the shop, took apart the torch, it looked OK but the electrode was jammed requiring a pair of pliers to remove, and put it back together.

I plugged it in without air and heard the HF kick in. I started it on the ground clamp and it sparked!

I will try to tomorrow with air and report back, thanks a lot!

Chris

Oh and as Spector said, sometimes it can be something as simple as the ground not connected good at either the work pc or the machine. Also are all the torch parts, consumables installed correctly?

Chris,

You (AND everyone) can PM a phone number to everlast_supprt anytime and get a call to you, but you emailed the main office after business hours on Friday. We close the office at 6PM PST.

The forum tech support is here everyday.

PM me or PM me your phone number (I will call you) and we work from here to solve any problems. We will make it right for you, that's a promise.

And trust me your Lincoln outlet will work with a Miller and Everlast unit too.

Chris,

Mike, I just went out and tested the unit, the unit will strike an arc without any air supply, but the minute I turn on air flow I cannot hear the HF unit kicking in anymore.

I tried regulating the pressure from 40 psi to 90 psi with no difference.

What is the next step?

Alright, got it working! I followed the directions on the Everlast website for checking and adjusting the HF gap and it was a bit wide. I used it for almost 1.5 hours straight tonight and it worked great cutting 14 gauge steel. I also cut a little 1/4" steel as a test.

Next question, how do you set the current? I found cutting 14 gauge steel that it seemed to cut the best a little higher than 1/2 way on the dial.

It seems to cut a lot faster than I expected, how do you tune in your travel speed to minimize dross? I made a few 24" long cuts and for a few inches of the cut there was zero dross.

EVERLAST SUPPORT, my plasma cutter came with a 40 amp torch, how do I get the 60 amp torch that was listed in the auction.

Thanks the everyone, especially

Chris,

Call the office number or email sales@everlastwelders.com and tell them that you did not receive the 60 amp torch. Include an invoice or ebay item number if you use email.

Glad our website got you running.

On the cutting of 16 gauge. If you are at the 1/2 way mark on the dial. I would make sure you pull fast, that is a lot of current. I cut thin sheet metal with less current and 60PSI. Also, keep the torch higher off the metal, let the tip of the arc do the cutting.

Mike, already had a conversation with Alex and I am all set with the torch.

I am cutting 14 gauge steel with a 40 amp torch. I used it again last night, and I am getting the best results at a little more than half way and pulling pretty fast. I use a 1/4" thick guide so the tip is 1/16" or so above the material. I was able to get dross free cuts last night!

It has earned a spot on the welding cart.
