View Full Version : Bought a Everlast Cut50D - Here's what I think.

Well, I'd tell you what I think but I haven't used it yet.

But initial impressions mean a lot to me and this is how I feel. I bought my Cut50D on ebay (perhaps this was my problem?) from the official Everlast store. They shipped it DHL, and due in no part to their negligence (except that they chose a now-bankrupt shipping company...), DHL takes forever to get my my house because they have to hand it off to USPS which adds days to the shipment. So I missed the shipment as I had to leave on a 5 week trip for business...

I checked out the unit, surprisingly small and light. Build quality seems on par with other Chinese imports. Everything went together with very little issue. I would have liked to see a 90degree hose-barb for the regulator and possibly a 90degree bulkhead fitting on the unit. I feel vulnerable with a big loopty loop of airhose hanging off the side and back of the plasma. I'll fix these shortcomings on my own. I'll also relocate the gauge to reduce vulnerability.

Looked through the packaging and found the worst instructions ever. In Everlasts defense they do have superior instructions on the website, but even they are not perfect. While the auction and the website both indicate the Cut50D is a dual voltage machine, the instructions are not clear on that fact and if it weren't for the markings directly on the machine I would still be unsure of that.

Upon unpacking I noticed immediately that the unit I received did not have the LED digital display that was in the pictures on the auction. While this certainly isn't a significant problem, it's something worth noting that I've also heard other complaints about. The display if nothing else makes the unit look slightly more advanced than it really is and would be a welcome addition to my shop. :D

And finally, I did not receive a 60amp torch as described in the auction. This again is a common problem I've noticed and I thought it prudent to mention again. I'd even wager to say they actually included a 40amp torch (LG-40)...

I'm only home for a couple days at a time every few weeks due to a traveling job. To order something and not get it as described the first time - on time can sometimes cost me weeks or months on my projects for which I needed the tools or parts. While these aren't time-critical tasks it's depressing to come home expecting a plasma cutter and not having it, or not having all the right parts.

So shame on Everlast for making the same mistake several times over. I read a post on these forums that these shipping issues had been worked out and that is one reason why I decided to go with Everlast.

Now to be honest I'm wishing I had gone with the Miller from my LWS. It was only three times as much money, but way less wasted time and annoyance.

In Everlasts defense: I have emailed them just moments ago and have not received a reply but from reading other posts I expect that these issues will be resolved for me in a timely fashion. My point though is ultimately a good business wouldn't make the mistake in the first place over and over again. But if they make good on their mistakes and this thing actually works when I plug it in later tonight, I'll make some cuts and post some pictures.

CDW,

Alex will take care of you on the torch and you can use that one for now. I am in support and can not help with that, if I could I would.

Sorry you're in and out a lot and the time loss makes this a bigger issue for you, but he will work as fast as we can.

PM me your information and I will call it in to the office now.

Also, thank you for an honest opinion/review. On the manuals (new ones) what did you not like in the new one? I will be happy to add or make corrections. On a final note, I have no display on my Cut50D either, but I still abuse it just as well as if it did. I know it would look cooler though..

Thanks for the help Mike.

As far as the manual goes, I felt like the details on wiring the power connector was vague with the good information at the back of the manual rather than the front. Furthermore, my machine did NOT have a green or yellow/green wire at all making the instructions pretty much useless. I figured it out on my own, but somebody else might get really caught up on that. I only stumbled across the improved instructions towards the back of the manual after I had it all figured out anyway.

My welder had Black, Red, and Whiteish wires If I remember correctly. Definitely not what is in the manual.

That is odd. I would guess the whiteish was the ground. But would grab an ohm meter and confirm it, wire to ground on the unit till I got a short.

Normally the confusion is the green wire is green/yellow so we change that in the manual. The wiring section is in the back figuring it will be used only once. It will look at them again. Ours are all that way.

Yup, I did make a post. Basically blasting their customer service and the fact that I didn't get the product I ordered in the first place. I started this thread and I'll end it. Deleting my posts only serves to annoy me.

In their defense, Alex did private message me and said he shipped the goods out. They do make an effort to make it right, but they require some prodding. I came back here to rebut my previous statements for all to see. But instead nobody sees the part where I told them they sucked.

In any case, as soon as I get the proper torch I'll be sure to melt some iron with it and let you guys know what I really think about it's performance. So far it's still working after a couple months of light use so I'm pretty positive overall.

I just made a post and then saw chicksdigwagons made a post about the same time I did.

Nothing was ever removed by Everlast support. If one was removed, it was removed for a reason by the main office. Maybe rude? But sounds like it is being worked out from the last post.

I personally see no problem with rude comments being removed. Wish I had that on my kids EMAIL.

The original poster and our office are working things out. See his last post above.

It's one thing if the OP who bought from us wants to come and leave comments if we dropped the ball. And we will correct the problem.

But two people that do not own our units and do not know "for a fact" if we dropped the ball to chime in, well that is not right either. No one knows anyone here, we are harassed here all the time by people that are not our customers.

We do not need people that clearly do not own our products giving us a hard time.

That sirs, is unfair to us and our customers.

Let me tell you right now. You guys DID drop the ball. TWICE. Lets just get that out in the open because those guys did know for a fact, I said so. But that is not my number one issue at this point. I DID have a support issue, I Tried to resolve it privately, when that didn't work I took it public.

I will not be censored. As mentioned before this sort of gestapo business practice is not going to serve you well in the interconnected age of the internet. I'll jump on 30 or 40 other forums that I frequent where you have no control. Not only will I tell them that you dropped the ball twice on getting me the correct parts but also that you felt the need to censor my concerns over your customer service! See how this can quickly snowball out of control? Suddenly, the simple act of removing a post cost you customers, it clearly has in this forum.

I raised concerns, finally got the reply I was looking for, and I came back to let everybody know that you came through for me and I was anxiously awaiting my goods. Alex came through for me and got me my DHL Tracking number.

As a business owner myself I can understand that mistakes get made and I was not in a critical hurry for the parts. I'm not an unreasonable guy. I didn't outright insult anybody nor was I rude.

At this point you've crossed the line in my eyes and properly secured the fact that I will not ever buy another product from you guys again. Ever.

And that's the bottom line.

And that is fine, but I think you mis-read or I mis-typed. You "are" an everlast customer and I do my personal best to help every customer. Many things are out of my control as this is tech support.

You can be as critical as you like if you have a problem with our company as you know it happened and you are a customer. They do not belong in a thread where we are trying to make things right for you.

But people that do not own the product and make comments on races/editing, well, it gets under my skin (non of us are Chinese by the way). As well I did not know posts were removed but I can imagine they were not related to the problem.

We want to help customers when they have a problem OR we screw up, not deal with unrelated people.

I was trying to saying "they" do not know for sure if the problem is real so how can "they" comment. I know your problem was real, so why would they jump in and make negative comment when the problem was between you and Everlast. I in no way meant you did not have the problem and sorry if read it that way.

Best of luck to you.
