Well, I'd tell you what I think but I haven't used it yet.
But initial impressions mean a lot to me and this is how I feel. I bought my Cut50D on ebay (perhaps this was my problem?) from the official Everlast store. They shipped it DHL, and due in no part to their negligence (except that they chose a now-bankrupt shipping company...), DHL takes forever to get my my house because they have to hand it off to USPS which adds days to the shipment. So I missed the shipment as I had to leave on a 5 week trip for business...
I checked out the unit, surprisingly small and light. Build quality seems on par with other Chinese imports. Everything went together with very little issue. I would have liked to see a 90degree hose-barb for the regulator and possibly a 90degree bulkhead fitting on the unit. I feel vulnerable with a big loopty loop of airhose hanging off the side and back of the plasma. I'll fix these shortcomings on my own. I'll also relocate the gauge to reduce vulnerability.
Looked through the packaging and found the worst instructions ever. In Everlasts defense they do have superior instructions on the website, but even they are not perfect. While the auction and the website both indicate the Cut50D is a dual voltage machine, the instructions are not clear on that fact and if it weren't for the markings directly on the machine I would still be unsure of that.
Upon unpacking I noticed immediately that the unit I received did not have the LED digital display that was in the pictures on the auction. While this certainly isn't a significant problem, it's something worth noting that I've also heard other complaints about. The display if nothing else makes the unit look slightly more advanced than it really is and would be a welcome addition to my shop. :D
And finally, I did not receive a 60amp torch as described in the auction. This again is a common problem I've noticed and I thought it prudent to mention again. I'd even wager to say they actually included a 40amp torch (LG-40)...
I'm only home for a couple days at a time every few weeks due to a traveling job. To order something and not get it as described the first time - on time can sometimes cost me weeks or months on my projects for which I needed the tools or parts. While these aren't time-critical tasks it's depressing to come home expecting a plasma cutter and not having it, or not having all the right parts.
So shame on Everlast for making the same mistake several times over. I read a post on these forums that these shipping issues had been worked out and that is one reason why I decided to go with Everlast.
Now to be honest I'm wishing I had gone with the Miller from my LWS. It was only three times as much money, but way less wasted time and annoyance.
In Everlasts defense: I have emailed them just moments ago and have not received a reply but from reading other posts I expect that these issues will be resolved for me in a timely fashion. My point though is ultimately a good business wouldn't make the mistake in the first place over and over again. But if they make good on their mistakes and this thing actually works when I plug it in later tonight, I'll make some cuts and post some pictures.
