I am looking to take a 101 type welding course offered through the local Junior College.

Wanted to see if any one would recommend any books that I can use in conjunction with the class.

A good all around intro book.

Thanks,
Mike

Check Ebay. Seems as if somebody is always selling decent books, many are high school and vo tech books that can be had reasonably.

Generally, the teacher will have a book picked out along with a syllabus that the class is structured around. If you just want a good book to learn welding, there are many. One that comes to mind is written by Larry Jeffus, "Welding Principles and Applications." Now in a sixth, I have the 5th edition. It is well written, extensive, and over 900 pages.
The best price I found in a quick search was this...

The most famous one is the Lincoln Procedure Handbook of Arc Welding. It has prequalified weld procedures for Stick and TIG for many different materials and thicknesses. It also had info on weld design, weld symbols, and inspection. It was only $5 from Lincoln when I was a welding student in 1980. Some people call it the welding Bible.

The Procedure Handbook and the Jeffus book are two very solid books. Also look at Metals and How to Weld Them. The others I could reccommend are procedure-specific books.

If possible, could you recommend some good GTAW books.
