View Full Version : Newbie needs help with MM135

I bought a MM135 last year and finally got around to using it for a trailer repair. Im just a homeowner that started with a Craftsman buzz box, so mig is all new to me.

I hooked it up with the shielding gas and ran about 2' worth of beads. The last line I did looked pretty bad and the wire kept getting jammed in the feed roller. Then I looked at the tanks regulator and saw it was empty. :(

When I installed the regulator, I noticed the cfm's were high considering the manual said 20 cfm's is average. I tried to adjust the screw on the regulator and didn't see the pressure drop. I think it was 80?

What am I doing wrong? I'm getting the cylinder refilled tomorrow and don't want to waste more money on gas. Could my regulator be bad? Or is it operator error? ;)

I figured out my problem. I had a loose connection which caused the bottle to drain out.

Something I always do, is shut the gas off when I'm done using it every time. I always hated having to run to get more gas when I needed it. So now I chew everyone out that doesn't shut it off. Also when I hook up the tanks I use a spray bottle to check for leaks.

As a side note, if you adjust the reg screw in a direction that should cause the cfm to increase you will see an increase immediately on the dial. If you turn the reg screw that should cause the cfm to decrease, you will not see that decrease untill you trigger the gun, which opens the solenoid and relieves some of the pressure.

Thanks for the info. I made a total newbie mistake by not making sure the gun was seated properly near the roller. The gas must have leaked out fairly quickly for my 5 minute weld job. Oh well, $24 mistake could have been worse.
