Hello! Wanted to introduce myself.

Iam new to welding and looking forward many hours of enjoyment from it. I have a strong desire to work with my hands and "build" things as is evident in my woodworking/carpentry interests. I have always had an interest in welding, but could never convince myself to purchase a setup, until now. I've had numerous projects done by others (gates/boat lifts) and felt that I was capable of doing them myself - cheaper. So, here I am trying it out!

I have an uncle that worked/welded for NASA and built custom trailers for many years that is going to teach me. I realize getting really good comes with practice :) I own one of his trailers that is older than me (30 years+) that has never had a single weld failure. Simply had to replace the tires and floorboards a couple of times.

Well, enough for now!

Later,
Chad

Most people get into welding before they've outsourced a bunch of work. Maybe the economics prevented you from it up till this point, but you’ll be surprise at the endless uses you’ll find for your newly gained skill.

The guys around here is great. Most of them will encourage you do focus on decorative welding, or around the home stuff before tackling safety welds like 3rd store walkways, role cages, etc.

Welcome aboard!

Welcome partner, Funny I got a trailer that is about that old too...well hmm about 33 years old. Built by an old oil field welder after the E. Texas oil bust. Trailer was built out of oil field pipe and was custom built for a tractor. Anyway, the old trailer is a real trooper and if welds fail, thats a bad thing. So be glad they havent...they were welded right. Good luck

Thanks guys! I do plan on sticking to light duty stuff for a while. I am putting the finishing touches on my welding cart and the wife wants something to put the garbage cans in so we can roll them to the street. Plus I'm tired of them blowing around the yard during every storm :)

Talk at you later!
