Hello all. First I have to confess that I did things backward. What I should have done is to find this forum first, learn something, then buy a welder. Instead, I had money to spend and was too eager, so I bought a Ramsond CT520 machine from eBay. Oh well, it works, and I'll learn...

I am in western Kentucky, teach chemistry at a university, and have long wanted to learn how to weld. Interestingly, my wife also wants to learn; she's looking at the "art" side of welding. Me, I subscribe to the old saying of "he who dies with the most tools wins." Some time ago I built a metal lathe from the Dave Gingery series of books and there were many times during that construction when the ability to weld would have made construction much easier.

I have only tried out my machine once, using the stick welding function. (I am already very good at making horrible welds....:). In the next week or so I plan to pick up a bottle of argon from the local welding supply so that I can try TIG.

Looking forward to learning as much as I can!
