Anybody ever have to remove a drive sprocket from a case skid steer? A 40xt is the model if I remember right. Not the sprocket on the shaft of the hyd. motor but rather the sprocket that on the wheel hub?

not sure about that paryicular model but does your machine have access covers on top of the gear/chain case? and is the chain tensoner mounted in be tween the weels? also why are you replacing just the sprocket?

There is no chain tensioner. There are two chains per side, one for front wheel and for the rear. The chains are tightened by sliding the wheel hubs fwd or aft on their mounting studs. I have had a wheel hub loose but could not remove it because the sprocket won't fit through the hole. There is a side cover that gets you to the point where the two chains are driven from the drive gear. I have not flipped the cab yet but there appears to be no access in the rear of the chain case. As for the top of the chain case I haven't looked there yet but I doubt it becuase that where the cab rests. The reason for all of this is that the skid steer has broken the right rear drive chain. The skid steer was ran for awhile before it was brought to my attention so the broken chain has been bouncing around in the chain case for awhile. Becuase of this the teeth of the sprockets are really messed up for chewing on broken chain.

I changed mine out on my 1845C. It came out through the access hole on the top. On the 45C, there are only two holes per tank for access. The XT's are much the same I believe. If that is so.....everything went in through the access holes...so it must come out that way, too. Messy way to do things, too.:(

Let me add that I think they might come out of the side cover where you access the center drive gear. In order to do this or remove them from somewhere else the sprocket would have to be removed from the wheel hub. How are the sprocket retained on the hub?
