Hello

I am a new member. I am a hobby model engine builder and antique engine restorer. I have an engine driven Welder/Generator built in the early 60's and I was hoping one of the fine members in this group might have a manual or any information on the welder/generator portion. The engine is an Onan 6CCK331E1887F and I have a manual for it on order. The generator portion is built by Emerson Electric and is model AW200SM-206. This is the part I need help on. It does work but I am afraid if anything dies I will be stuck with a heavy piece of useless iron.

Would appreciate any help,

Ron

Welcome to the forum, your welder is very similar to my WNP-200 Bug welder. Your's could just be an earlier design of mine. Ironically I worked for Emerson Power Transmission, a division of Emerson Electric and I purchased mine from them in a sealed bid auction. It was an old maintenance dept welder.

Welcome to the site. I can't help you with your question about the welder (which might be more successful in another forum) but I can ask what kind of engines you work on, whether it's only for yours, and if you belong to any groups. I have friends in the Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Association, one who is always working on things for others if not building models himself.
BTW, it might be helpful if you entered your area in the control panel so it shows when you post.

Oldiron2 Thanks for the pointer on the personal profile info. I started out in Smokstak which is the antique engine and tractor forum. I got some information about the engine but not much on the generator/welder.

I have built a hit and miss model engine from scratch. The model required a fair amount of welding and brazing to make the flywheels and chassis. I just got an old rusty Ottawa hit and miss form the early 1900’s running. The old rusty restoration still needs some cast iron welding to reattach some mounting feet that snapped off when the previous owner dropped it.

I belong to the Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum in Vista California. They have 45 acres and many hundreds of gas engines, steam engines, gas tractors, steam tractors etc etc. I also belong to the Southern California Home Shop Machinist (SCHSM) club which is a collection of Southern California machining enthusiasts.

The portable welder is more for future use when I move to my bigger property when I retire.

Yes, I have searched for any links related to Emerson Electric. I contacted them several years ago and I could not find anyone with even a remote idea of what I was talking about. I visited the local Cummins-Onan repair facility, which conveniently just happens to be within a mile of my office in Irvine, Ca. The guys in the service department were very familiar with the engine but had never seen this version of generator.

This is a long shot, but you might call or write "Air Cooled Engines" in San Jose, Ca. The phone number is (408) 295-4789 and ask to talk to Gerard. He has worked on all this type of equipment for decades and may at least give you some good leads on the generator section.

Does the faceplate on the generator give a serial number which might be used to guess how many of these were made or sold? The plate on the engine may have been used with many variations which sed the same engine so that's probably less helpful.

Mine is a Chemtron "Bug" WNP-200 I've got the manual with it (pays to have friends in the maintenance dept. LOL). The manual is dated from 1970, I'll try to get some better pics of it some time. For now you can see it in this link, http://weldingweb.com/showthread.php?t=26906 , hope that works!

You can see the end of the generator looks very simular and I can tell you the engine and power to weld switch is the same, pics later!

Welcome to the forum Gerlacr :waving: and that's a cool looking oldie but a goodie. I love old welders and generators. Interesting AC duplex outlet and starter button you got there.:D

I can't help you on the welder but this guy http://onanparts.com/ can on that engine. He's a member here too.
