Howdy to all ya'll from the boondocks of Southern Maryland. First thing I wanted to say was that this is a GREAT site. I have been readin alot of the post and I'm in awe at the knowledge a lot of you guys have....I'm hopin that withs ya'lls advice and knowledge that I can improve my skills. I'm an aircraft mechanic in the US Navy workin on F-18 Hornets and currently stationed at a test squadron at NAS Pax RIver in southern Maryland. Been in for almost 20 years and finally get to retire in November of this year. I've been around welding most all my life....my Dad and my brother are both welders and I have always loved to weld but I love fighter jets too and I guess the Jets won out when I enlisted. If I had it to do over again I would have come in and became a steelworker in the Seabees. I have always wanted to be a pipewelder but at 41 I'm too old to change careers now so I guess I will just have to stick to hobby welding and odd jobs.
I've got all of the basic welding gear...a Lincoln 225 AC "buzz box", a lincoln 100 amp mig welder, and a Victor O/A outfit for cuttin. I love to use the cuttin torch and REALLY love stick welding....dont really like MIG that much but it has its uses. I've tried to get some training but every time I have started a class I had to drop out due to repeated deployments to Iraq.
I got thur O/A and started stick before I had to drop out. Other than that I've been burnin alot of rod tryin to teach myself. I'm really lookin forward to using ya'lls vast knowledge to help me learn to lay some beads I can be proud of. I have always love to weld and yes you guys are right...it is an addiction...but what a great addiction! Well I've rambled on long enough...I look forward to ya'lls advice and tidbits of welding wisdom.
Take it easy guys,
Rod
