Which tungsten would we need to buy for these machines. Ceriated or Thoriated Tungensten?

I plan on welding .062, .125, and .187 CR steel
and the same 3 thickness' of material in aluminum.

thanks,

mike

Mikee,

Use 2% Ceriated for aluminum size most likely 1/16th. They are generally used on transformer machines, but they will work both on AC and DC on inverter units. We sell them as well if you need some for cheaper I believe than your local airgas.

Thanks for the reply..... I am still a little unclear as to which rod to use on steel?

Will the 2% thoriated rods work well on steel?

thanks,

mike

Yes,

That is correct for all materials other than aluminum, you can use the 2% thoriated tungsten, which usually have RED tops. For aluminum, you want the 2% ceriated. However, the 2% ceriated can work on both aluminum and other metals so it is universal. They are generally grey tops or maybe orange tops sold by AirGas.

Thank you
