I'd just like to give a special thanks to WeldingWeb member GAUSTIN, of Welding Inspection Services.
I work as a Welding Engineer for the Power division of one of the top rated EPC companies in the world. We had a need here for a new weld tracking database, and no commercial offerings were available that met our needs.
GAUSTIN and I have been working very closely together to develop an Access-based tracking program which we now have issued in what is essentially a beta-testing phase. It has given us the ability to track all of our welds, weldor qualifications, inspection personnel, NDE, and generate several reports must to the delight of our QC/QA departments. With the capability of importing weld data generated by our piping engineers, it will also save us thousands of manhours in data entry as well.
I've got to say, it's been a pleasure working with him. He's gone out of his way to tweak the program to meet our needs, always responded quickly to my calls and e-mails, and even spent time on nights and weekends to help us. And perhaps most importantly, he knows welding, and actually has a clue what he's talking about. Believe me, when we tried to source this task out to our IT department initially, you can imagine the frustration on my face when having to answer about 1000 question along the lines of "What's RT? What's WPS mean? What's a WQT?" Never mind trying to explain to them the intricacies of ISO numbering schemes and weld maps.
So while I don't want this to come off like a shameless plug, I just want to thank him again, and thank WeldingWeb, as it provided me with the ability to network with GAUSTIN to get this task accomplished.
We're now implementing this tracking program on several billion dollars worth of projects both domestically and overseas, so here's to hoping it ends up working so I don't lose my job! :D:drinkup:
