I have been checking this site out for a few weeks now, finally decided to register. I don't have any mig welding experience and I am looking to change that. I have run a couple beads with a stick but it has been over 20 years. I do have a lot more experience with oxy/acetelene rigs, mostly brazing but I have a "feel" for them.
Currently in the market for a new mig. I have an old International Scout that is going to need some work on it. Probably have to re-do the floor pans and some other minor body work. I had thought about just getting a small 110v mig, But I don't want to limit myself. I know once I get started I'll end up wanting to weld thicker stuff.(bumpers, frame etc...)
I am seriousy considering the clarke 160en. It is reasonably priced and I think it might cover all of my needs in a welder but I don't know if it would be good on the thinner sheet metal or not? I have searched on here and see that a few people use the 130en but haven't seen alot on the 160en. The 130en has the advantage of being 110v and that has me second guessing having to have a dedicated 220v outlet. So for now I am still trying to make up my mind on what to get. Any thoughts?

Hi Ya tonkascout800a and Welcome to the Welding Web Family. If you plan to do any frame work on your scout or eventually thicker metal. I would certainly recommend a 220v mig unit. What brand of unit is up to you as there are a bunch out there that will meet your needs. Just do some research before you buy anything.

Thanks for the input specter. I don't really need any frame work done but may need to do some work such as bumpers/roll cage etc... Figure I might as well spend a little more now to save having to buy a completely new mig later.
Still haven't decided on a brand ......still researching...........
