Here's a pic of our coupon cutter from Watts; Dave the owner, provided excellent product support, he's a great guy. I'll try to post up some pics of what this machine is capable of soon.

This is how we set up each booth. Yes, we had our friends from IBEW 613 hard-wire the grinder motors. That's a Lincoln Electric fume extractor arm in the top of the pic

Wow somebody spent some money, good now some more young qualified weldors can keep the torch lit(Union Hopefully). Qualified tradesman in general are in short supply. My father retired in '02(Sparky like myself) The I.O sent him a letter asking if he wanted to come back because their was a shortage. He respectfully said no.

2 pics of the Lincoln Electric fume extraction equipment. They're extremely quiet & state of the art. The structural fab work and the sheet-metal work was handled by Mckenney's

Another pipe cutting set up using Watts equipment and Lincoln Pro-Cut 80's. Couldn't get both in the pic however
I like the gas panel. Very professional.
I was looking at the pict of the booth. I see two flow meters but can't tell if they are from one line or 2.

Thanks for the kind words DSW. We've put a lot of effort into this school. That flow meter is fed from a single 1/2" OD SS line.
I'll take it then that all the units on that line have to run the same gas.
Hmm... Our school had lines run in each booth for air to run the plasma (as well as an outlet), CO2, 100% argon, and 75/25. Any booth could be used for mig, while another nextdoor used FC and the 3rd tig.
Just a different way of do the instruction I guess. If the whole class or even 1/2 does the same thing it shouldn't matter.

Here's a pic that shows one of the 6 end grinder/ vice-grip stations we've attached to a welding table to aid in coupon prep. The grinders are hard-wired to the table and the table is fed using a single heavy gauge cable.

Glad you asked; they'll be up later today
why are the grinders hard wired, to prevent them from walking off?

Not so much walking off but to keep them in the booth so we don't have tools scattered all around the shop.

Gorgeous shop, though I'm not a fan of those adjustable pipe stands. The clamp arm and rest at the bottom clearly create a restriction and I'd hate to be the one to have to change out those grinders (though I understand the "sprouting legs" principle), but the rest of it is top notch.

Thanks for the compliment. These are the Dewalt's with the "steel" gears as opposed to those found at the big box stores. (You just have to hold one of each to feel the difference in weight.) Those grinders won't often replacement. When they do; we just call our friends at IBEW 613. The stands have actually been a big hit.

My local 798 pipeliners just finished their plans for a new training center, and I hope it's just half as nice as that place. I learned almost everything through the school of unpaid, at lunch, and I hate being a helper school! It's great to see the locals out there upgrading all their equipment to meet the needs of a new high tech world!

Didn't remember the camera. My apologies; not sure if I would have had time to take pics anyway. You should keep an eye on your AWS Welding Journal and possibly your UA journal for pics however and maybe I can get someone to e-mail me. It was truly a privilege to have worked on that job.

That is a very nice school ...but how to change discs on the grinders go shut down their booth or just don't hit the button while doing the changes..always unplug your grinder or other power tools before changing tooling HMMMM for a school that's bad teaching could of used stainless leashes or something, maybe they change out before firing up the booths for the day but someone has gotta need one at some point.... other than that wow that place is beautiful

Looks like there is a switch on the electrical box the grinders are wired into. We have Watts machines at our shop as well, but they arent that pretty.

Correct, they're wired to the switch. Grinding rock changes are drama free
Wow! Nice place. Just imagine. Working somewhere everything is clean, new and works.

I stopped by this evening and took a couple pics of new things I noticed. Sorry for the quality of the pics. The lighting was weird. A couple of Dynasty 350's and a very nice Lincoln MIG machine. I'm sure there's more but I wanted to get in the welding booth and get a coupon welded out!

Not so much walking off but to keep them in the booth so we don't have tools scattered all around the shop.
In my own home-based shop, I too change out the factory electric cords on my power tools. I put a short pigtail cord on, and never have to wind up the cord to store the tool;
just un-plug and onto the shelf. The plug I install is a "twist-lock", so connections stay
connected to my 20 foot extension cord. The third advantage to this method is that the neighbors no longer ask to borrow my "220-volt" tools!
Bgbkwndo.
