I couldn't think of anything to get your attention so that's what I typed!

So, hello to all on the forum. I have been heavily searching and researching this site and I am a little overwhelmed with how much information is on here. This forums is so useful, I love it!

I've had a panasonic 250 mig welder for a couple years and it's done fine for me. I decided it was time to go tig. So, I picked up a used Ltec heliarc 250hf squarewave with water cooled torch. It's a tank for sure! I picked it up to do an AL project. A collapsible rooftop deck for a 40ft car hauler. A larger tougher first project I guess. I figure if I can get good with AL I can do well with steel.
I actually took a welding coarse several years ago and it helped the learning process.

I'm 29, live near Boston, I work with race cars and run a production facility that makes racing harnesses. (6-point belts) I build the cars as well as race them. I came from a chassis shop where I helped build the cars from raw materials to complete racers. I loved that place... So much to do and learn. I never did finish weld there as the owner was the man for that job. I'd fab and tack for him to complete the welding.

So, I will be posting up some question very soon! I look forward to hearing from the wise ones here. I have much to learn.

Thanks and take care,
Tim Greneir

Tim, Congratulations! I have two of those welders, although one of them is labeled as a Linde and the other as an LTEC. I'm just beginning learning TIG, but have used them as stick welders. They are VERY nice! They were in an auction, filthy, dented up, and thrown on a broken pallet on top of each other with the power cords cut off. But they both work just fine! I wouldn't have a TIG welder at all if I hadn't gotten these, and then I discovered they were darned nice machines.

The more I learn on them, the more I like them... although I don't have enough power in my shop. They trip the 50 amp breaker after a few minutes of TIG welding at only 40% power so I have to keep below that. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong since I've never tripped the breaker stick welding with them at close to 50%.

I'm 53, live in Bergton VA and have a stepson up there in Boston. He loves it... a starving musician living above a welding shop. Does it get any better???
