Hello, I currently work in the health care industry as a CNA, and also do a little massage here and there. I was trying to get into nursing, but the further I get, the more I'm finding it's just not for me.
Working around metal has always been a dream of mine. That may sound crazy, but I love the idea of seeing what you create after working long and hard on a project.
So, I think it's time to stop thinking about it and just jump in. I'm hoping to start a few classes here at our community college next spring, but between now and then I'm planning to travel back home (Iowa) to get a few lessons from my dad. He builds sport mod chassis and has always wanted me to help in the shop. So why not? It's never too late to learn, is it? ;)

Greetings .Sprout.,
Nope...for the living, it's never too late to learn or, too early, for that matter. You sound like you have a plan of action. A little medical experience might be a big plus in the area of metals, especially experience with burns.

My mom has been an RN for almost 20 yrs now,She is also going to the local community college to learn carpentry. She asked me once if i though that was strange and i said no,because it's something that she enjoys doing. If you enjoy something and you can made a good living from it i say go for it,we're only getting older and life is short.Do what you love and love what you do.I wish you the best of luck .Sprout in any endever you take upon in life.

Hey, thank you both very much. Yeah, from the classes I've looked into, it seems I'll need quite a few classes to get certified. I'm not sure I want to take the cad and business classes. Not that they wouldn't be benificial, but I just want to learn to weld, LOL. Do ya think it would be better just to hire on as an apprentice someplace to learn the trade or go on through the school and do it that way?
