should i get a tig?

I am restoring/building a 69 camaro. It needs a lot of sheet metal work. I have a little 110 mig welder that i have had for 7 years and it works ok as long as you don't overheat it.(fan quit working) i have been looking at the 180 and dynasty 200. are these overkill for what i need. i read that tig welds are easier to grind without the heat build up like the mig welds. it would be nice to try welding aluminum too once in awhile.Or do i get a better mig and buy a lift.

probably overkill and will not be nearly as easy to do in out-of-position welds. Remember that tig requires both hands and sometimes a foot, whereas a mig just requires an itchy trigger finger (one hand). A better bet would probably be a nicer mig machine with pulse and spot welding features. Depending on which you get, you might sink as much money into it as a nice tig machine, but you will like it much better "out of the box" for what you are doing. Some of the nicer millers can be had as a package with a spool gun for aluminum for a pretty good price.

If you are wanting to learn to tig and are using the camaro as an excuse, that's a different story. In that case, go for it, but don't expect the benefits of the tig process to be completely there until you have had a chance to build up your skills.
