I've inherited a Hobart Champion 16. The auto-idle will not idle down. It will full throttle and start, but after about 10 seconds in auto-idle position, it dies. Is it the off/auto-idle/full idle/start switch itself or is it engine/fuel related? Thanks for any responses...

Welcome to the forum T.:waving:

Sounds like the auto idle solenoid has shorted to ground (solenoid body). When the Auto Idle control module attempts to activate the idle solenoid after the normal 10 second delay, battery + voltage (that also powers the ignition) shorts to ground killing the engine. It's also possible the auto idle module is shorting its 12vdc + feed to ground too but I'd look at the solenoid first. Unplug the idle solenoid and see if the engine still dies after the 10 seconds. If it does it's not the solenoid and the auto idle control module is at fault. If the engine doesn't die, confirm proper auto idle control module operation by checking for 12vdc + voltage at idle solenoid plug, wire #44 white (harness side) with the solenoid still unplugged.

Could also just be wire #44 shorted to ground. Check around the engine for the wire insulation worn or melted thru on the block, head or shrouding. If nothing there, check wire #44 back thru its path to the auto idle control module for a short to ground as a result of worn insulation.

I saw on the news tonight you're getting some of that evil white stuff. Keep it up there!
