my old toyota got some rust (size of a quarter) around the windsheild. what to stop it now.what do you guys think? i am open just about anything to stop it.
Well, this being a welding site and all-----

That small and I'd be tempted to just patch it up with some body putty.

I'm with PAToyota. I'd just clean it good with a wire wheel or something, maybe rivet in a metal patch from behind if possible/accessible, ping down the rivet heads, and bondo. I am guessing that this is not a terribly valuable car/truck otherwise, right?
quicker alternative...navel jelly and duct tape.
even quicker...great stuff.
My dad used great stuff to seal a rust hole the size of a possum in his chevy truck. It was a real conversation starter at the cow sale. :D

If the metal is only rusted, meaning there is no hole, sand off the loose rust and brush apply some Ospho (phosphoric acid). This will convert the rust (iron oxide), to iron phosphate, which is inert. You may have to do it several times to get the rusted area to turn all black. Then wash it off and shoot it with good primer. I'd bet though that the rust had started under the windshield trim. Unless you take care of that too, the rust will continue to spread.
