I like these puppies. Big, grey and run forever, well, obviously not FOREVER, but...a really long time. Lots of old farmers use them for both welding and power. They usually look like crap cause they really get abused and neglected, but they crank right up and run like a sewing machine. I saw one in a farmer's estate auction. Had 3500 hours on the meter and looked like it had been stored in a cess pool. I thought I might get it for a hundred or two because of its looks. When it cranked on the first touch of the switch, bidding started at $300 and was up to $700 before the auctioneer even looked at me. It's a classic welder.
one in good shape will keep its value very well, much better than Elvis Commerative Plates.

I've piped many a miles with them , and tell all theres no comparing with anything on the market , even the new ones , they started putting a GM motor in em know , they say because of the epa. If you got an old Lincoln hang onto it , you can always rebuild it . cause the new 200's with the GM motor weld for crap !

I love the old '47 SAE300 we have, welds like it's brand new but it don't look pretty. Grandpaw bought it from a farmer he knew back when my Dad was in high school and rebuilt the engine, he said it never made any oil smoke and it still doesn't. :D

I hope you don't mind me jumping in here. I have one of these old sa200's, It it says on panel it's a SA-200 F163, code 6792, ser. 639048. I looked it up at lincoln and down loaded manual, but still not clear on year. I'm curious what is a red face or shorthood model. Thanks for any info. Charlie

Charlie, you can email the model, code, and serial numbers to Lincoln Electric( www.lincolnelectric.com ) They have all the records that go back to the early 1900's I think.

vhuerta,
I trust you do realize you responded to an almost 1 year old post. Highly unlikely the unit is still available and richardu hasn't been around since 4-6-09.;)
Just the same, welcome to the forum. :waving:

Hello, I've been trouble shooting my welder and have a few questions. The serial number and model is A-410688 4150model its a 1959 model with the r-57 idler . I've looked at some schematics and can't seem to find one that pertains to my welder. The problem is, upon striking arc the welder doesn't rev to high idle. I know the solenoid in the idler is good because when I put 12v to it, the machine goes to high idle. I looked at some schematics, and it only shows the wires coming out of the welder lead block. What about the wires coming from the 3 postion switch that run the stop/auto idle/highidle. Where do they go? I need to know what wires control the solenoid in the idler, that gives it voltage upon striking arc. Where do they come from and how do they connect? I did find two wires not hooked to anything, one form the positve side of the lead terminal and the other coming out of the lead block. I hooked them the to the solenoid and nothing happend, and the switch that controls the stop/autoidle/highidle does nothing, it wont even turn the machine off. Any advice would be great. Thanks
Gmmandan

We have a section in the main from for problems with the machines you will probably get alot more views and help in that section. Maybe if you ask one of awesome mods nicely they will move it for ya.

This thread is six years old. You will get better answers starting your own new thread on the Lincoln section. The pdf. from Lincoln lists 7 numbers in the serial #, beginning with an "A", unless your machine was built before 1944. If so it's a 1938. Wiring diagrams can be found here:
http://billswelderrepair.com/SA-200.html
Scroll down to Pipeliner Info (black box) and click on Machine Schematics. Scroll down to find the correct wiring diagram for your machine.

Hi,
Canadian made Lincoln SA-200 welders have different serial numbers than US made ones. Canadian serials do not start with an "A". US made ones also have a code and Canadian ones do not.
Your best bet is to email to Lincoln.ca and ask using your numbers.
Hope this helps :)

I'd be interested if it's a red face or an ol' short hood.
Theres a Gentlemen in Oregon, that restores Old Classic Welders. He has a Shorthood SA-400, Fully restored he was asking $2600.00. He's on E-Bay all the time selling his machines. Real nice guy, I spoke to him a few times.
