I have a light duty Esab plasma but its only rated 18 amps (pretty weak BTW) and already have a nice mig welder. Question? do i get the 200 dx or spend 400 more and get the plasma/tig combo. Need ac/dc tig for aluminum and cutting around 1/4 inch material and aluminum. anyone tried out the combo units and do they work as well as individual units? thxs for the responses, paul

I've never met a combo unit I liked from any manufacturer. Of course, you could buy a Thermal Arc TIG unit and have money left over for a plasma.

The old website has some issues. We are releasing the new version very soon, but the PM 205 is what you are referring to. Yes, either that or you could buy two separate units. The PM 205 is a good unit and has a couple of additional features that the DX doesnt have. Including it has a higher duty cycle and arc force control. I think that either will work, but for the price, you will actually find the 205 has the better features. Both are our entry line to the particular line. You might want to look at the or the pm 256 if you want a fully featured machine. But these machines are still very competent to do the job you are seeking.

I have the DX and is a nice operating unit. I would have two separate machines. Easier transport too if you need to move around just the cutter.

The DX does have a different pedal operating configuration from the other models according to what has been written here and there is no information in manual as someone else wrote. Not hard to figure out though.
