I have found cutting guides, but they all say crank it up to 60 AMPs, even for the thinnest material. This just seems wrong to me. Does anyone have a real guide? The Hypertherm.com one just says 60 amps for all thicknesses, and then "adjust" for best cut. Isn't there anything that will put me in a ball park?

Look at the cutting guide for a 30 or a 45 and use the ipm from those settings.

Looking in my manual, as an example, it lists 30amps 20Ga mild steel at 320ipm. At 45 amps it lists 380ipm.

30 amps 16Ga @ 225ipm and 45amps 16Ga @ 350ipm.

There is a full list on 30 and 45 in the PowerMax45 operator manual.
