Nothing against Texas. I just thought I'd throw that out there since just about everybody that has joined in the last month or so has been from Texas. I'm from north-eastern Wisconsin.

I'm a total welding noob. I'm actually just heading out to pick up a Hobart Handler 125 this afternoon. I figure it will be a good learner machine for $299. I'm just planning to do decorative/hobby stuff with it, probably build the obligatory welding cart, and maybe a workbench for the garage.

I've never welded before, but I figure by starting out with a wire welder and an auto-darkening helmet, it will be as easy as possible to learn what I'm doing.

First question: Is the MIG kit worth it, or should I just stick to flux-core?

YOURE WELCOME...shush you Sandy lol. Sandy is a great guy and hes NOT a texan either and we actually have a lot of respect for Mr Sandy :p Ok, so aside from the jokes...Yeah I would say its worth it to get the mig kit even if all you plan on is flux, cause the mig will make much niceer looking welds. Also it will weld thinner. Youre gonna be real limited on how thick you can go with a smaler machine. Dont limit yourself as well with how thin. just my two cents
